Five strangers. Countless adventures. One epic way to get lost.

Four teens across the country have only one thing in common: a girl named LEILA. She crashes into their lives in her absurdly red car at the moment they need someone the most.

There's HUDSON, a small-town mechanic who is willing to throw away his dreams for true love. And BREE, a runaway who seizes every Tuesday—and a few stolen goods along the way. ELLIOT believes in happy endings…until his own life goes off-script. And SONIA worries that when she lost her boyfriend, she also lost the ability to love.

Hudson, Bree, Elliot and Sonia find a friend in Leila. And when Leila leaves them, their lives are forever changed. But it is during Leila's own 4,268-mile journey that she discovers the most important truth— sometimes, what you need most is right where you started. And maybe the only way to find what you're looking for is to get lost along the way.

Okay, so this is one of those books with a whole lot of hype that just did not work for me. I hate when that happens, because then I feel like the only person in the world who didn’t like it.

Before I get into this, please note that this is a DNF review. Read up to 30 percent, and then gave up. You see, it’s kind of broken up by peoples stories. This girl Leila is taking a trip across the country you could say. Heading north. She runs into various people along the way.

The first person she runs into is Hudson. I’m not going to lie. I was bored from the get go. She’s a complete stranger, but yet he’s instantly infatuated with her pretty face. They spend some time together and then he messes up. He makes a mistake that could cost him his future, but blames her. Nice.

Then it moves on to the next person she runs into on the road. At this point I’ve felt two things, boredom and annoyance. So bring on this new person! It’s a girl named Bree and she likes to steal. “Hi, nice to meet you. Let’s go steal shit!” A lot of shit. No thank you.

So I stopped. It just wasn’t what I thought it was going to be. I even put it down for a couple days and tried to pick it back up. I didn’t like the characters much and the story was dragging. So much of what was going on seemed pointless. It’s been compared to the writing of John Green. I can’t say much on that because I’ve only read TFIOS, but from what I can tell it’s nowhere near that kind of quality. There are a ton of positive reviews out there so maybe it is.

I gave it two stars because it's not poorly written, it just wasn't for me.

About the author:
Adi Alsaid

Adi Alsaid was born and raised in Mexico City, then studied at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. While in class, he mostly read fiction and continuously failed to fill out crossword puzzles, so it's no surprise that after graduating, he did not go into business world but rather packed up his apartment into his car and escaped to the California coastline to become a writer. He's now back in his hometown, where he writes, coaches high school and elementary basketball, and has perfected the art of making every dish he eats or cooks as spicy as possible. In addition to Mexico, he's lived in Tel Aviv, Las Vegas, and Monterey, California. A tingly feeling in his feet tells him more places will eventually be added to the list. Let's Get Lost is his YA debut

  1. Dude! You are only the second person out of quite a lot of people I've seen that have given this book less than three stars. (I gave it one star, btw)
I have to admit, I kind of hated this book. Everything just seemed so unrealistic- I mean, would you really just go round spilling all your life secrets to some stranger?
HUDSON'S STORY OMG. He made such foolish decisions. I find it weird that some people say they have such great chemistry when all he really seemed to comment about her was that he really liked her face...

Hopefully we'll both enjoy our next reads more than we did this one!

  2. I've actually read quite a few DNF reviews of this book, and I've heard it's really uninteresting. Considering your review, I think I would agree.

  5. I DNFed around 52% - I found that I would rather do other things than read this disaster. It was so much like a JG novel. I was upset every time I read it. It was MANIC PIXIE all the way.
    Wasn't for me.
